Common Ground: Those who came, those who left

Around the sacred common place of a table, people share tastes, aromas and memories. Asia Minor and Turkish Cretans, full of the place that nurtured them, retell the past and transform it into a fruitful future. The period of the exchange of populations unfolds as Fly Theater dramatises memories as well as the stories recorded by the Rethymno writer Maria Tsirimonaki in the book of "Those who left, those who came".

Katerina Damvoglou (a third-generation Minor Asian from Crete) and Pelagia-Ozlem Tsega (a third-generation Turkish-Cretan philologist and chef) talk, reminisce and cook. The cuisine of the two cultures are integrated in the new homelands, just like the ingredients of a rich meal of Cretan and Asia Minor recipes.

We feast on a meal full of Cretan and Asia Minor dishes in the garden of the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, which is full of monuments and memories; songs and stories.
